I = Ideas

One of the hardest thing about writing is coming up with an idea for a completely new novel. I often find that I need to at least write something to get going. Even if I go with an idea I’m not crazy about, it could lead to more. This something tends to be an experiment. It changes over and over again, until the idea is much different than when it started. Writing prompts have often helped me get moving.

I used to post writing prompts and exercises in one of my writing groups. So I went and dug up one of them. Try this one...

Here is something to get your dialogue going! Who would you like to have been in a past life? Who would you have hated to be? Write a scene of dialogue between those two.
If you don’t like that one, here are some links to try.

Writer’s Digest posts a new writing prompt every day.

Writing Prompts on Tumble: These writing prompts can be unusual and always posted with an image

And....Here are 346 prompts.

Looking at the picture of the pad and pen made me feel very excited. I've just started a new project, so that's probably way - I'm brimming with ideas that have to be written down.

I find writing prompts stifle me rather than inspire - is that weird?

I should try writing prompts sometime.

I have a surplus of ideas right now. I wish I could farm them out for someone else to write.
