May 2013 Update.

A camp in Lapeer, Michigan
This is just an update to let everyone know I’m doing well. The writing progress could be better though. I have been going back and forth between projects, and every time I think I’m settled on what I will write next….I change my mind. But don’t worry, I’m going to give myself a swift kick and get going on something. This month I started a new job and it always takes some time to get settled in. I’ve had two ideas for prequels. Then it occurred to me that I could write both of them…eventually.

Home life has been busy because it’s approaching the end of the school year with all these last minute projects and field trips for my kids. My son is graduating this year, and I’ve been helping him study for finals and getting him enrolled in college for next fall.

Then I went on a camping trip with my daughter’s 6th grade class. The first day was nice, but the second day it rained. Some of activities the kids did turned out to be somewhat beneficial to one story I wanted to write because the activities were related to Native Americans. We went around making bracelets out of copper, eating various leaves (which I didn’t think had much flavor) and making fire by striking rocks together. I could get a spark going, but my daughter didn’t have much luck. The wind didn’t help either.

As for my blog, I’ve decided I really want to write more books, and the blog just has to take a backseat. However, if I get a sudden inspiration for a blog post or something interesting happens, I will be sure to post about it.

Kids had the idea of rolling down the hill, of course.

If you want to write, then go write!
Congratulations to your son.
And if you survived camping (and with a bunch of kids) then congratulations to you as well.

It's not a matter of just what I want to do. I don't have hardly any free time, and if I give it up to blogging then there will be no other writing.

Eating leaves? I think I'd pass on that; knowing my luck I'd eat a poison ivy leaf or something.

Sounds great, Cindy. Have a fun summer and enjoy writing those prequels.

I love it when stuff I do with my kids turns out to be useful for writing.

Blogging does tend to get in the way of writing. As soon as my current promotion is over, I really need to follow your example, and spend less time on the blog, and more time writing! Good luck with choosing which project you want to work on!

That's a sign of a good mommy, one who can step away from the blog-o-sphere for the most important job in the world. ;)
